40th Annual Fall Show & Competition
Congratulations to Joe Perkins on
winning the Best of Show Award with his Santa & Mrs. Claus
carving, Fred
Carter for winning the People's Choice Award for his realistic Indian
bust, and
Hey You Glass for winning the Pastor's Choice Award for his abstract
carving. Congratulations
also to all of the winners in
the individual categories. Pat
Moore,
Moore Roughouts, was our show judge.
Thanks Pat!
Everyone participated in the
Whittling Contest. Guests
encouraged and
advised the carvers. The
novice carvers
were given a rough shape of a fish and told to carve "something
aquatic". First
place went to Marie
Curcio, second place to Zane Bumguardner and third place to Angie
Barnes. The Open
class (more experienced carvers)
were given a 1 x 1-1/2" block of wood with a chain in one end and told
to
"carve something" — whatever they imagined.
First place went to Fred Carter, second place
to Fred Stratton, and third place to Helen Havemann.
Honorable Mention went to Preston Smith.
Tradition has it that the first place winner
in Novice moves to the Open Class next year and the first place winner
in Open
is in charge of the next year's contest.
The vendors provided tools,
sharpening services, roughouts and wood.
Thank you Moore Roughouts, Old Texas Woodcarvers Shop and
Danny Reb.
Our show would not have been
possible without our generous sponsors:
Rockler
Woodcraft
Sun Belt Group LP
The Old Texas Woodcarvers Shop
John & Marie Curcio
Lorraine Lewis
Preston & Carolyn Smith.
